The Richland-Bean Blossom School Board meeting on December 16, 2024, celebrated a remarkable achievement: the Edgewood High School marching band, known as the Mustangs, clinched their third consecutive Class C state championship. This victory marks a total of four state titles for the band, a feat that has garnered significant pride and recognition within the community.
During the meeting, school board members emphasized the importance of this accomplishment, noting that repeated success in competitions is no small feat. "Three in a row is pretty cool to say," remarked a board member, highlighting the quality of the band's performances over the years. The excitement was palpable as the board acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the students and staff involved in the program.
Band director Mr. Wells expressed gratitude for the support from the school board and administration, particularly for a new trailer that has enhanced the band’s capabilities. He introduced senior drum majors Mary Crow and Kaylin Dunham, who shared their personal experiences and the transformative impact of the band on their lives. "This program has truly changed my life," said Crow, reflecting on her journey from shyness to leadership.
The meeting also served as a platform for the seniors to be recognized for their contributions to the band’s success. With nearly the entire senior class present, the atmosphere was filled with pride and camaraderie as they prepared for an upcoming concert.
As the Edgewood marching band looks forward to future competitions, the community remains eager to support their journey, hoping for yet another successful season ahead.
