Toledo City Council members expressed gratitude for the quick and effective response of local police during a recent crisis involving a man in distress. At the December 18 meeting, a council member highlighted the actions of Sergeant Rob Leiter and Officer Simon Urbina, who intervened when a gentleman was attempting to commit suicide outside government buildings.
The council member praised the officers for recognizing the man was in a mental health crisis and for their ability to de-escalate the situation without incident. Remarkably, the weapon involved was later confirmed to be fake, underscoring the potential danger of the scenario. The council member emphasized the importance of the officers' training and compassion, stating, "I want to thank our officers, but especially those 2 officers that were able to bring that situation to a good end and help this gentleman get the help that he needs."
In addition to this commendation, the council member extended warm holiday wishes to fellow council members, expressing regret for missing the council's Christmas party due to a prior commitment. The meeting underscored the critical role of mental health awareness and the importance of community support during challenging times.
