Residents of Aldrich Road voiced serious safety concerns during a recent government meeting, highlighting the deteriorating conditions of their road and the urgent need for repairs. Christy Gates, representing a group of concerned residents, detailed the hazards they face, including overgrown grass that obstructs visibility and a misleading speed limit sign that has been altered to read 80 miles per hour instead of the intended 30.
Gates emphasized that the road's condition has worsened significantly, making it increasingly dangerous for drivers. He noted that the grass along the sides of the road had grown taller than his truck, forcing vehicles to pull into the middle of the road to see oncoming traffic, particularly at a dangerous hill on Ryan Lane.
Despite previous complaints to local officials, Gates expressed frustration that it took until this year for any action to be taken. He acknowledged the challenges faced by Union County in managing numerous road repairs but insisted that the safety of residents should be a priority. Gates urged for more consistent maintenance and attention to the road's issues, particularly regarding the patching of potholes and the correction of the misleading speed limit sign.
The meeting underscored the ongoing dialogue between residents and local government regarding infrastructure safety and maintenance, with community members calling for immediate action to address their concerns.
