In a recent government meeting, the council approved a significant agreement with HD Fowler Company, a new solar generator business located in the Spanish Springs Business Park. The company will sell power to the Utah Municipal Power Agency (UMPA) at a rate of 4.3 cents per kilowatt hour. This marks the first large-scale solar project within the council's jurisdiction, prompting discussions about future projects and the need for streamlined processes.
Council members expressed the possibility of granting the power superintendent the authority to sign similar agreements in the future, should they arise. Currently, such agreements are rare, with the council noting that they may only see one every few years. The resolution to authorize the mayor to sign the solar power sales agreement was unanimously approved.
Additionally, the meeting included an update on the general plan and stationary plan projects. The council is nearing the completion of a citywide survey, which is expected to be the last outreach effort combining both projects. The survey results, which concluded recently, will be analyzed and presented in an upcoming meeting. The council anticipates reaching a 50% draft of the land use element of the general plan by the end of September, with plans to finalize it by November. The stationary plan is projected to extend into early 2024.
The council emphasized the importance of community input in shaping future developments, with ongoing discussions and meetings planned to ensure that public feedback is integrated into the planning process.
