The Trenton City Council meeting highlighted exciting developments for the upcoming Trenton Art Festival, scheduled from September 7 to 14. Michelle, the festival's creative director, announced plans to transform the downtown area into an art hub featuring nine murals, two sculptures, and art shows across nearly 20 locations. The festival aims to engage the community with various activities, including children's events on the 13th and 14th, and will provide indoor options in case of inclement weather.
Council members expressed enthusiasm for the festival, with Councilman Ferrucci inquiring about contingency plans for rain. Michelle reassured that many events would take place indoors, allowing participation regardless of weather conditions. The completion of the murals is anticipated by the festival's end, with a possible extension to the 15th for artists needing extra time.
In addition to the festival, the council addressed a resignation from Rena Bellinger of the Downtown Development Authority. Councilwoman Vaughn Crooks acknowledged Bellinger's contributions to the downtown area and encouraged community members to apply for vacancies on various boards and committees.
The meeting also approved the American Legion Post War 26's request to hold their annual car and bike show on September 21, which will involve closing a section of West Jefferson Avenue from noon to 5 PM, under police and public works supervision. The council unanimously supported this initiative, further demonstrating their commitment to community engagement and local events.
