In a recent city council meeting, officials approved several significant contract modifications and payments aimed at enhancing local infrastructure.
The council unanimously approved a contract modification for the 2024 pavement joint and crack sealing project, allocating an additional $7,751.70. This adjustment was necessary due to the unique repair requirements on Helen Court, which necessitated the use of a specialized mastic sealant instead of the traditional compound. This new material is designed to effectively seal gaps in concrete, preventing water infiltration that could lead to erosion.
Additionally, the council authorized a progress payment of $30,595.62 to Duke's Root Control for the first phase of a sanitary sewer cleaning and CCTV investigation project. Despite concerns raised about the vendor's out-of-state location, city officials clarified that Duke's Root Control had acquired Pipetech, the company previously used for similar services.
Another significant payment of $85,608.40 was approved for sanitary sewer rehabilitation work by Form Technologies USA, LLC. This payment marks the first progress payment for the ongoing rehabilitation efforts.
The council also approved a payment of $53,874.25 for the pavement joint and crack sealing program, which is reported to be approximately 76% complete. Officials noted that much of the work has been visible in areas like Salted Park, where recent improvements have been well-received by the community.
In a forward-looking initiative, the city received a conditional commitment for $170,100 from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for a sidewalk modernization project aimed at repairing sidewalks damaged by tree roots. The city will need to match this funding with an additional $42,525, pending final approval of bid documents by MDOT.
These actions reflect the city's ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving its infrastructure, ensuring safety and accessibility for residents.
