A local builder's dream of flipping remote mountain properties has turned into a legal nightmare after discovering that his neighbor's cabin and septic system encroach on his newly purchased land. The builder, who has spent years constructing cabins for clients, took the plunge last year to buy a one-acre property near Rob Roy, intending to build and sell a cabin for profit.
However, upon surveying his land, he found that Calvin Bokima, a wealthy neighbor from Davenport, Iowa, had built his cabin partially on the builder's property. The situation has left the builder unable to proceed with his plans, as he must first resolve the property line dispute.
Neighbors informed the builder that Bokima had attempted to purchase the land years ago but was unable to do so. They alleged that Bokima constructed his cabin after the previous owner was placed in hospice care, suggesting a questionable ethical decision. Bokima himself later confirmed that he chose the location for his cabin to enhance the view.
The builder's experience highlights the challenges faced by individuals looking to invest in remote properties, particularly when dealing with established neighbors and potential legal complications. As he seeks to resolve the issue, the builder remains hopeful that a conversation with Bokima will lead to a fair resolution.
