During a recent government meeting, Billy Klein presented his proposal for a significant modification to his property at 121 Central Avenue. Klein seeks to add an eight-foot extension to the north side of his existing structure, which was built in 2005, and convert the upper level into a living space. The current structure is classified as non-contributing and dates back to 1990.
Klein explained that the addition would involve removing the existing roof and constructing a second-story apartment above the garage, which would remain open on the ground floor. The new design includes two garage doors—one standard size and another smaller door intended for golf carts. The proposed height of the new structure would reach approximately 26 feet, with the first floor standing at nine feet and the second at eight feet.
Concerns were raised by meeting attendees regarding the visual impact of the new structure, particularly in relation to neighboring properties and views of the river. One member questioned whether the addition would obstruct views for nearby homes, referencing a recently renovated property that may also serve as a short-term rental. Klein was advised to ensure his plans align with local guidelines regarding new construction and the proportionality of accessory buildings.
The proposal is currently under review, with further discussions anticipated to address the implications of the new construction on the surrounding area and compliance with zoning regulations.
