In a recent city council meeting, community safety and urban planning took center stage as residents voiced concerns over traffic issues and the need for improved safety measures near schools and parks.
Gol Khan, president of the Tunstone Community Homeowners Association, highlighted a troubling intersection at Iron Point Road and Willow Bridge Drive, which has seen a significant number of accidents over the past two years. Khan attributed these incidents to a combination of speeding, red light violations, and a dangerous blind spot created by nearby trees and landscaping. He emphasized the intersection's proximity to Folsom High School, where many students cross the road, and called for a meeting with city officials to discuss potential solutions to enhance safety in the area.
Joanne Brosch, a member of the traffic safety committee, echoed these concerns, criticizing the lack of foresight in planning for new developments. She pointed out that numerous schools and a new park have opened without adequate crosswalks or safety measures, leaving children vulnerable as they navigate busy roadways. Brosch noted that several intersections pose risks for school-age children, particularly along Mangini Parkway, where students are required to cross without assistance.
The discussions underscored a pressing need for the city to prioritize traffic safety and implement necessary infrastructure improvements to protect its residents, especially children. City officials are encouraged to engage with community members to address these critical issues and develop actionable plans for safer routes to schools and parks.
