In a heartfelt ceremony, the Logan Sport Police Department announced the retirement of its esteemed K-9 officer, Crypto, who has served since 2017. The announcement was made during a recent meeting of the Board of Works and Public Safety, where officials recognized Crypto's significant contributions to law enforcement, particularly in the area of narcotics detection.
Crypto, who was acquired from Bob McKennels in Denver, Indiana, has played a crucial role in numerous arrests related to illegal narcotics in Cass County and beyond. Over the years, he has also showcased his skills at various K-9 Olympics, further highlighting his capabilities as a police dog.
Corporal Tanner Prentiss, Crypto's handler, expressed his gratitude for the rewarding experience of working with the canine. He took over Crypto's training and care after the original handler resigned, demonstrating a commitment to the dog's welfare throughout their partnership.
As Crypto approaches his eighth birthday, the department has initiated the process for his retirement. According to department policy, K-9 handlers may apply to adopt their dogs upon retirement, pending approval from the Chief of Police and the Board of Public Works and Safety. The board is expected to review the request for Crypto's retirement and the potential transfer of ownership to Corporal Prentiss.
The meeting underscored the bond between law enforcement officers and their K-9 partners, marking the end of an era for Crypto and his dedicated handler.
