During a recent government meeting, the Wimberley Arts Committee presented an exciting proposal for a mural design at the old Kyle Road crosswalk, aiming to enhance the area’s aesthetic and community engagement. The committee, represented by chair Don Minick and members Nancy Elliott and Sharon Carter, expressed gratitude for the council's approval of funding that has significantly supported the project.
The initiative includes the installation of four citizen-generated haiku poems stamped into the sidewalk, which received an enthusiastic response with 63 submissions from approximately 40 community members. To increase visibility, the committee plans to paint borders around the haikus, making them more prominent for pedestrians.
The centerpiece of the proposal is a mural titled \"Living in Harmony with Nature,\" designed by Elliott and Carter, both experienced artists with backgrounds in education and mural painting. The mural will feature a water theme, reflecting local environmental concerns, and will incorporate playful elements such as a turtle and a rubber duck, symbolizing community events.
The committee is utilizing guidelines from the Asphalt Art Guide by Bloomberg Associates to ensure the mural's durability and visual appeal. The council is set to vote on the mural design, which promises to enrich the community's cultural landscape and foster local pride.
