During a recent government meeting, residents raised urgent concerns regarding traffic safety and maintenance issues in their neighborhoods. Diana Wilson, a resident from 95th and Campbell, highlighted a troubling increase in vehicles traveling the wrong way down her block, particularly as drivers attempt to circumvent traffic caused by a nearby train. She noted that a sign indicating the direction to the mall is often ignored, leading to dangerous situations where drivers backtrack unexpectedly.
Wilson proposed potential solutions, including the installation of illuminated signs to capture drivers' attention and the addition of speed bumps to mitigate reckless driving behavior near the mall. She emphasized the risk posed to children and other pedestrians, especially with the ongoing traffic disruptions.
Additionally, Wilson addressed the overgrown vegetation in the alley between Maplewood and Campbell, which has become a hazard for residents who rely on it for access to their garages. She expressed frustration over the lack of action since her initial report in May and questioned the responsibility for maintaining the area, suggesting that both the city and residents need to take accountability.
City officials acknowledged the issues raised and committed to investigating the traffic concerns and the state of the alley. They assured residents that they would look into possible solutions to enhance safety and improve the neighborhood's overall condition.
