In a recent government meeting, the Navarre Beach Fire Rescue District celebrated the remarkable achievements of lifeguard Michaela Ludwig, who has emerged as a national champion in the women's surf rescue race at the 2024 Uslen National Championship. Ludwig's journey began in 2018 as a lifeguard at Pensacola Beach, later transitioning to Navarre Beach in 2020. Her dedication to the sport has seen her rise through the ranks, earning a promotion to senior guard and becoming a certified PwC jet ski rescue operator.

Ludwig's athletic prowess was evident from her early days with local swim clubs and at Gulf Breeze High School, where she secured two top-five finishes at the state meet. She continued to excel at the collegiate level, first at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and later transferring to Rutgers University, where she graduated with a master's degree and a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Her recent national title was achieved as part of a mixed team with fellow Palm Beach County lifeguards, where she showcased her skills as a rescue swimmer. In addition to her championship win, Ludwig also achieved notable individual placements, including fourth in the women's run swim run and fifth in both the surf open swim and the women's taplin relay.

The meeting highlighted not only Ludwig's individual accomplishments but also the broader impact of such events on the culture and safety of the community. The Navarre Beach Fire Rescue District presented her with a certificate of recognition, acknowledging her outstanding performance and the significant influence she has had on the organization and the community it serves.
