The Camarillo City Council meeting on Tuesday evening featured public comments addressing two pressing community concerns: noise pollution from recreational activities and traffic safety for children.
Neil Congello, a local resident, voiced his frustrations regarding excessive noise from a neighbor's frequent baseball practice. He described the sound as unbearable, likening it to that of a metal bat, and expressed his concerns about the impact on his quality of life. Congello urged the council to consider potential amendments to regulations governing noise levels, suggesting the use of softer balls or bats as a possible solution. He has previously reached out to city officials about the issue and hopes for further dialogue.
Ryan McNerney, another resident and a firefighter, highlighted a significant safety hazard at the intersection of Kya Laroda and East Ponderosa. He reported witnessing numerous children, particularly those attending nearby elementary schools, attempting to cross the busy street without adequate safety measures in place. McNerney emphasized the lack of crosswalks, pedestrian signs, and traffic control devices, which he believes contribute to dangerous conditions for both pedestrians and drivers. He called for immediate action from the council to install necessary traffic signals and signage to protect the community's children.
Both speakers underscored the need for the council to address these local issues, reflecting broader concerns about community safety and quality of life in Camarillo. The council acknowledged the comments and indicated a willingness to explore solutions in future discussions.
