In a recent government meeting, the superintendent provided an optimistic update on staffing and enrollment as the new school year approaches. With just a week until the start of classes, the district is preparing for the arrival of 8,190 students, a notable increase from the previous week’s count of 8,007.
The superintendent reported that the district is currently 90% staffed with teachers, with five schools fully staffed. However, some middle and high schools still have vacancies, with two teaching positions open at several middle schools and five at the high school. The superintendent emphasized that addressing staffing shortages is a top priority for the year.
In addition to staffing, the enrollment figures showed a positive trend, particularly in kindergarten, which has seen an increase to 540 students. The pre-kindergarten program is also growing, now at 321 students, reflecting the district's investment in early education. The superintendent expressed confidence that universal pre-kindergarten could be implemented within the next two years.
The meeting also highlighted the staggered start dates for the school year, with grades one through twelve beginning on August 28, while pre-kindergarten and kindergarten will start on September 4. The superintendent concluded the report by encouraging continued efforts to fill remaining vacancies and support the growing student population.
