During a recent government meeting, commissioners discussed an upcoming maintenance project at the intersection of 14th and Van Buren. The project will involve widening the road shoulder by two feet and applying maintenance over a 140-foot stretch on both sides. Key elements of the work include excavating the dirt on the shoulders, compacting it with AB3 rock, and laying down a new base. Additionally, milling and overlaying the road surface are planned.
The estimated cost for the project is $67,328, with the county contributing to the effort by providing and hauling the necessary rock. A larger drainage tube will also be installed on the north side of the road, and tree clearing within the right-of-way is scheduled to take place.
Commissioners noted that AIPAC, the contractor, aims to commence work this fall, with the expectation of completing the road maintenance before January, pending the clearing of trees after the leaves have fallen. New signage, including delineation signs and a four-way flashing red stop sign, will be installed, along with paint striping to enhance road safety.
Approval for the maintenance proposal was sought, with an estimated road closure duration of about four days, although a week was suggested as a precaution. The project is anticipated to significantly improve the road's condition and safety for local residents.
