Residents of Mableton are invited to participate in a community walk/run event tomorrow, August 29, starting at 6:30 PM from the South Cobb Regional Library parking lot. Participants of all athletic abilities are welcome to join, with the route extending from Floyd Road to the Silver Comet bike shop and back. Organizers caution that the weather is expected to be extremely hot, urging participants to consider their comfort and safety.
The event aims to engage the community in discussions about enhancing pedestrian and mobility-friendly initiatives as part of Mableton's comprehensive planning efforts. Attendees are encouraged to reflect on their surroundings and envision improvements for the area.
In addition to the walk/run, a stream cleanup of Nicajack Creek is scheduled for Saturday, September 7, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Heritage Park. Organized by the Friends of the Concorde Cover Bridge Historic District and Cobb County Watershed, volunteers are asked to bring rubber boots and wear clothes suitable for getting wet. Supplies such as gloves, trash bags, and litter grabbers will be provided. This initiative aims to maintain the cleanliness of local watersheds and preserve the natural beauty of Heritage Park.
Councilman Ferguson highlighted the importance of voting during the meeting, emphasizing that civic engagement is crucial for community representation. He encouraged residents to ensure their voter registration is up to date and to participate actively in upcoming elections, particularly noting the registration deadline of October 7 for the November 5 election.
The meeting also acknowledged Women's Equality Day, with council members expressing gratitude for the contributions of women leaders in the community. Councilwoman Herndon shared her personal connection to community organizing, inspired by her grandmother's legacy.
Lastly, the council announced a summer concert series at the Mable House, featuring performances from notable artists, including Dougie Fresh and Patti Labelle, throughout September. The meeting concluded with a motion to enter an executive session for real estate and personnel matters.
