In a recent government meeting, officials discussed ongoing flooding issues affecting the Ocean Pines Drive area, particularly around Alpine Circle and Wildwood Lane. The meeting highlighted a history of flooding complaints dating back to 2002, with residents reporting significant water accumulation following severe storms in 2021.
The planning board reviewed the development's compliance with original subdivision plans and noted that while the drainage infrastructure was constructed according to the 1987 development plan, it has proven inadequate for current stormwater management needs. The existing drainage systems were found to be undersized, particularly in Alpine Circle, which has led to persistent flooding problems for residents.
An analysis conducted by a survey crew revealed that the stormwater management systems in place were not designed to handle the volume of runoff generated by recent weather events. The report indicated that modifications made to the stormwater basin during the construction of condominiums were insufficient, and many catch basins were inaccessible due to being paved over.
To address these issues, the report recommended several actions, including the installation of additional stormwater storage systems near Alpine Circle and modifications to existing catch basins to improve drainage capacity. The proposed solutions aim to mitigate flooding risks and enhance the overall effectiveness of the stormwater management infrastructure in the area.
Officials emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent further flooding and protect the affected residents, as the current systems are unable to cope with the increasing intensity of storm events.
