In a recent government meeting, the school board approved a new collective bargaining agreement with the Communication Workers of America (CWA), marking a significant step forward in employee relations. The contract introduces several enhancements, including improved language regarding evaluations, discipline procedures, and the inclusion of bereavement leave for employees.
Additionally, the agreement clarifies policies related to jury duty leave, holiday definitions, and paid breaks, ensuring that employees have a clearer understanding of their rights and responsibilities. Notably, the contract also provides increased compensation for summertime bus drivers, reflecting the board's commitment to supporting its workforce.
The negotiation team, which included members such as Miss Christofoli, Mister Green, Doctor Sut, and Doctor Long, was recognized for their dedication and hard work throughout the bargaining process. A total of 57 language changes were made to the contract, aimed at clarifying roles and expectations within the district.
During the meeting, Joseph Rubino, president of CWA Local 3181, expressed gratitude to the district's bargaining team and the CWA membership for their support and contributions. He highlighted the extensive effort put forth by the team, which included late nights and weekends dedicated to incorporating member suggestions into the new contract.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote in favor of the agreement, signaling a positive outcome for both the school board and the CWA members. The board's decision reflects a commitment to fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment for all employees.
