During a recent city council meeting, officials discussed the newly proposed Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which aims to enhance and optimize community parks and recreational facilities in Paramount. The plan, the first of its kind for the city, incorporates public feedback gathered during a spring 2024 review draft, highlighting community desires for improved park amenities and programs.
Key requests from residents included the addition of shade structures in playgrounds to combat summer heat, the use of rubber chips for safety instead of wooden chips, and improved sanitation features in park restrooms. There was also a call for more recreational facilities, such as zip lines, splash pads, and dog parks, as well as handball courts, which have a dedicated following in the area.
The council noted the importance of providing free drop-in play facilities that do not require prior registration, alongside requests for water aerobics classes tailored for older adults. Additionally, residents expressed a need for clearer communication regarding facility rentals, such as picnic shelters.
The council is expected to seek additional funding to implement these enhancements as outlined in the plan. The resolution to adopt the Parks and Recreation Master Plan was moved and seconded, receiving unanimous support from council members. As the plan progresses, city officials will continue to engage with the community to ensure that the parks meet the diverse needs of all residents.
