In a recent city council meeting, officials presented the newly developed Parks and Recreation Master Plan, aimed at guiding the enhancement and expansion of the city's park system over the next decade. Community Services Director Yesenihe Guillen highlighted the collaborative effort that led to the plan's creation, which included extensive public engagement through pop-up events, stakeholder interviews, and focus groups.
The plan, which underwent public review from May to August 2024, is designed to address the challenges the city faces in expanding its recreational facilities. It emphasizes equitable access to parks, diversified recreational amenities, and the maintenance of quality parks. The comprehensive master plan includes an inventory of 17 parks and recommendations for improvements such as playground replacements, installation of mile markers, and upgrades to fitness equipment.
Allison Lee, a consultant from MIG, noted that community feedback played a crucial role in shaping the plan, identifying key priorities such as the need for more parks and recreational spaces. The city aims to prioritize projects based on available funding from county, state, and federal sources.
The council is expected to vote on the approval of the master plan, which is seen as a vital step in enhancing the quality of life for residents in Paramount.
