During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the ongoing recovery efforts at Bayside Landing Park, which suffered significant damage from Tropical Storm Debbie. The storm impacted all piers, with Pier C sustaining the most severe damage, rendering it closed due to extensive repairs that exceed the capabilities of county staff.
To address the situation, the county has secured grant funding to replace the entire marina facility at Bayside Landing, a project that was already in the planning stages prior to the storm. Construction is set to commence in early November and is expected to last approximately four months. To facilitate this work and minimize costs, all slipholders will be required to relocate their boats during the construction period.
Public Works has prepared three distinct letters to communicate with slipholders regarding the upcoming changes. The first letter targets annual leaseholders, informing them of the anticipated inaccessibility of their slips and offering a four-month credit towards next year's lease. The second letter addresses six-month leaseholders, notifying them of a one-month credit for the construction period and waiving charges for the first three months of their next lease. Lastly, slipholders at Pier C will receive a letter advising them of the pier's closure and the need to remove their boats, with additional financial relief provided for the period of inaccessibility.
Officials emphasized that all slipholders will receive financial relief for the duration of the construction, with specific provisions for those affected by the storm's aftermath. Any objections from slipholders will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. The meeting concluded without the need for a formal motion, but officials sought input and feedback from attendees before proceeding with the outlined plans.
