During a recent government meeting, community members expressed significant concerns regarding a proposed development of 24 new homes in their neighborhood. Residents highlighted that the addition of these properties would drastically alter the character of the area, particularly in terms of increased foot and vehicle traffic.
Currently, the neighborhood comprises 83 properties, which residents noted already contribute to a substantial amount of traffic on local streets. They emphasized that the streets serve as vital pathways for both vehicles and pedestrians, and any increase in traffic could compromise safety and accessibility.
Using a conservative estimate, residents calculated that the new homes could potentially add 48 people and 48 vehicles to the neighborhood. This would result in a 29% increase in both vehicle and pedestrian traffic, a stark contrast to the 1% increase suggested by the KLOA, a traffic analysis firm. Residents argued that such a significant rise in traffic is untenable, especially given that there is only one safe entry and exit point for the neighborhood.
The discussions underscored the community's commitment to preserving the character and safety of their environment, raising critical questions about the implications of further development in the area.
