She noted that the previous sinking of the USS Oriskany had transformed it into one of the top dive sites globally, generating significant tourism revenue. Beard argued that the SS United States could replicate this success, potentially yielding a return of $150 for every dollar invested by the county.

Captain Andy Ross, who operates Niue Dive Charters, echoed Beard's sentiments, stating that the SS United States would enhance Pensacola's reputation as a premier dive destination. He expressed concern that without this project, divers might be drawn to neighboring Okaloosa County, which has sunk numerous wrecks in recent years.

Brady Hale, founder of the Ocean Strike Team, urged the council to consider a new economic study that supports the project's viability. He asserted that the SS United States represents a unique opportunity for the community, one that could significantly boost tourism and local business.

Kerry Freeland, president of Dive Pros and chairman of the Escambia County Marine Advisory Committee, confirmed widespread support for the project within the diving community. He highlighted endorsements from major diving organizations and noted that funding discussions were underway, with potential contributions nearing $1 million.

The council's deliberations included considerations of quorum and procedural motions, with members expressing a willingness to continue discussions and gather further input from stakeholders. The meeting concluded with a commitment to explore the proposal further, recognizing its potential impact on the local economy and marine environment.
