Concerns over traffic congestion near local schools and major roadways dominated discussions at the recent government meeting. Officials highlighted the pressing need to address traffic issues at the intersection near two elementary schools located on either side of Timber Creek, particularly during peak school hours.

To tackle these challenges, the meeting revealed plans for a study to extend Tomoka Farms Road from its current endpoint at LPGA north to State Route 40. This study aims to determine the optimal alignment for the road, with the expectation that future developers will contribute to its construction as new projects arise in the area.

Additionally, discussions included the potential widening of Williamson Boulevard from Madeline Avenue to Town West, which would involve a costly crossing over Interstate 95. While immediate construction is uncertain, officials expressed interest in pursuing this project to create a four-lane route that would serve as an alternative to I-95.

In Zone 2, a recommendation was made to design the southern extension of Williamson Boulevard from State Road 44 North to Pioneer Trail. Despite the utility commission's lack of interest in funding the project, officials plan to position themselves for potential state or federal grants to facilitate the road's construction, enhancing traffic flow in the region.

The meeting also addressed the notorious congestion on State Route 44 during weekends and holidays, particularly as beachgoers travel from Orlando. To alleviate this, officials are exploring options to create an alternate east-west thoroughfare, building on recent widening efforts on 10th Street.

In Zone 3, two key recommendations were made to improve traffic capacity between Catalina and Holliver Road, where significant commuter traffic is observed. Plans include adding a dedicated turning lane to streamline traffic flow and alleviate congestion. Additionally, officials noted the need to reassess traffic patterns on Howland Boulevard, which has seen fluctuating capacity levels over the past few years, despite ongoing concerns about congestion in the area.
