The proposed purchase price of $730,000 follows two appraisals conducted in 2018 and 2021, reflecting the property's limited market value due to existing leases and conservation restrictions. The sale aims to eliminate ongoing financial liabilities for the county while transferring ownership to Bourne, which has the right of first refusal under Massachusetts law.
Legal counsel confirmed that the conservation restrictions would remain intact after the sale, ensuring continued protection of the land. The discussion also touched on the need for improved collaboration between the county commissioners and the assembly, with some members expressing concerns about their ability to fulfill their elected roles effectively.
