A representative from Habitat for Humanity shared poignant stories of individuals benefiting from their critical home repair program. The organization has been actively addressing the needs of residents facing unsafe living conditions, including a disabled veteran who required modifications to prevent falls and a domestic violence survivor whose home suffered extensive damage. The representative noted that there are currently seven applicants within city limits awaiting assistance for urgent repairs, such as leaking roofs and wheelchair ramps. With the support of the Lacey Human Services grant, Habitat aims to assist these applicants and potentially help additional families in need.

The meeting also featured the Boys and Girls Club of Thurston County, where CEO Shelica Trevino discussed their partnership with North Thurston Public Schools to support youth experiencing homelessness. The program provides free after-school care and transportation for these children, allowing them to engage in educational and recreational activities without the burden of fees. Trevino emphasized the importance of this initiative in giving children a safe space to thrive, despite their challenging circumstances.

Additionally, the North Thurston Education Foundation presented its mission to enhance educational opportunities for students in the district. Executive Director Deanna East outlined their efforts to mobilize resources for basic needs and program enrichment, reinforcing the collaborative spirit among local organizations.
