In a recent government meeting, the council approved a professional services agreement with Sunland Group Inc. for architectural services aimed at expanding bathroom facilities at Das Rec, a local recreation center. Council member Warmke expressed concerns regarding the existing layout of the center, particularly the poorly designed locker rooms and restroom locations, which he described as \"stupid.\" He emphasized the need for practical improvements, such as adding benches in the locker rooms and utilizing unused concession space for additional restrooms.
The council also discussed a resolution from the New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation, which involves a project expenditure of up to $45,000 for a planning and feasibility study by Economic and Planning Systems Inc. This study is part of a potential public-private partnership concerning two parcels of land. Warmke questioned the necessity of spending approximately $100,000 on this initiative, noting that the city already owns the land and suggesting that there might be more effective uses for the funds.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote in favor of both the bathroom expansion project and the feasibility study, reflecting the council's commitment to improving local facilities and exploring development opportunities.
