In a recent government meeting, the proposal for a Class C liquor license at Metgolf Links golf course, located at 500 Veterans Memorial Park, was discussed. The applicant, Susan Leporecio, represented by Nicholas Hemand Darrow, outlined plans to serve alcohol on the course while awaiting the completion of a restaurant and clubhouse. The golf course, which has received positive feedback since its opening, aims to provide pre-packaged food items through local vendors, as they are not yet equipped to prepare food on-site.
Darrow emphasized that the license would allow for the sale of alcoholic beverages, primarily canned drinks, from a designated service area at the starter shed and two small outdoor bars. However, he clarified that they are not applying for a Class G license, which would permit cart service, until they can establish a full kitchen.
During the public hearing, local resident Deborah Perez voiced concerns regarding the impact of alcohol service on the community. Living adjacent to the golf course, she reported frequent incidents of golf balls hitting her property and expressed worries that serving alcohol would exacerbate disruptive behavior among golfers. Perez highlighted her experiences with noise and property damage, urging the council to consider the potential consequences of the proposed liquor license on nearby residents, particularly families with young children.
The council is expected to deliberate further on the application, weighing the benefits of the golf course's operations against the concerns raised by local residents.
