In a recent government meeting, the council addressed two significant agenda items, including an annexation proposal and an airport facility lease agreement.
The first item involved the consideration of Ordinance 2024-27, which proposed the annexation of approximately 7.553 acres of land in Caldwell County, Texas. The land is located near FM 1984, and the council discussed its implications, particularly regarding the roadway's status in relation to city limits and development agreements. After a brief discussion, the motion to approve the annexation initially failed with a vote of 3-2. However, after a short recess to allow a missing council member to return, the motion was successfully passed with a revised vote of 4-3.
The second item on the agenda was the approval of a resolution for a commercial lease agreement with Compliance Aviation for airport property. The lease is set for an initial one-year period with options to renew for up to five years. However, the council faced contention regarding the lease terms, particularly concerning the rates. A motion to postpone the decision was made to allow for further discussions and clarifications, which passed with a vote of 6-1. This postponement will allow staff to engage in additional conversations regarding the lease before it is brought back for consideration at the next meeting.
The discussions highlighted the council's ongoing efforts to manage city growth and infrastructure while ensuring that agreements are beneficial for both the city and its commercial partners.
