In a recent government meeting, officials discussed ongoing efforts to manage a significant wildfire threatening residential areas in Campbell County. The fire, which has shown active behavior and rapid spread due to changing wind conditions, prompted pre-evacuation notices for several communities, including Westin Hills and the 60 Bar Ranch.

Fire department personnel, alongside road and bridge crews, have been actively engaged in containment efforts. Initial strategies focused on securing the southern perimeter of the fire, but challenges arose as the fire crossed Highway 59, necessitating a shift in tactics. The team reported that steep terrain and limited access points have complicated firefighting efforts, particularly in the Bridal Axe Ranch area.

As the situation evolved, officials noted that the fire had reached the north end of the ridge, south of Horse Creek Road. Despite these challenges, containment efforts have been bolstered by the addition of two large helicopters and hand crews from other fires that are nearing containment.

Aaron Lyles from Camplex provided an update on community support, stating that the facility was prepared to serve as an evacuation center, although no evacuees were required to be mobilized at this time. The meeting underscored the collaborative efforts between fire management teams and local resources to address the ongoing threat posed by the wildfire.
