During a recent city council meeting, Beaumont Community Players were honored with a proclamation celebrating their 100 years of providing quality family entertainment and educational programming. The organization expressed gratitude for the city's longstanding support and announced plans to expand their mission under the new name Southeast Texas Stages, aiming to enhance community engagement.
The council also recognized September 15th through October 15th as National Hispanic Heritage Month, with plans to celebrate at the upcoming Viva Beaumont Hispanic Heritage Festival on September 15th. This free event will feature live entertainment, food trucks, and activities for families, highlighting the rich Hispanic culture in Southeast Texas.
In addition, the City of Beaumont's communication department provided updates on various community initiatives. Registration for the adult softball league is now open, with play starting on October 7th. The department also announced free nature classes for children at the RC Miller Library, focusing on local wildlife and ecosystems.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the Scenic Texas City People's Choice Award voting until September 27th, as well as a community cleanup event scheduled for September 21st. Lastly, the 9th annual Oktoberfest is set for October 5th at Rogers Park, promising a day of polka music, local food, and family-friendly activities.
The meeting concluded with an invitation for public comments, allowing citizens to voice their concerns or suggestions to the council.
