In a recent incident in St. Mary's County, Maryland, a confidential informant, accompanied by Sergeant Robert Merritt of the Sheriff's Office Special Operations Division, was served an alcoholic beverage without being asked for identification. The informant, dressed in athletic attire, ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio at a licensed establishment, where the server, identified as Bambi Lee Jenner, failed to verify the informant's age before serving the drink.
Following the incident, Sergeant Merritt alerted Deputy Stephen Myers of the Alcohol Enforcement Unit, who subsequently contacted Jenner. During this interaction, Jenner acknowledged her oversight in not checking the informant's identification and expressed regret for the mistake, recognizing the importance of age verification in alcohol service.
Deputy Myers informed Jenner that an offense report would be filed, and both she and the establishment's licensee would be required to appear before the board to address the violation. The transaction was documented, with photographs of the beverage and receipt taken as evidence, while the alcoholic beverage itself was disposed of by the restaurant staff.
This incident raises concerns about compliance with alcohol service regulations and the importance of proper identification checks to prevent underage drinking.
