The upcoming St. Luke's FitOne event, now in its 12th year, is set to take place on Saturday, September 21, in Boise, with expectations of over 12,000 participants. This year marks a significant milestone as the event approaches nearly one million dollars in donations since its inception, aimed at promoting healthy living among families in the community.
FitOne, which evolved from the Women's Fitness Celebration, has expanded its reach beyond a single day of racing. The event serves as a platform to inspire families to engage in physical activity together. Recent projects funded by the event include the construction of a school track at Lowell Elementary and the ongoing McCall's pathway project, which aims to improve access for local residents.
Participants can choose from a 5K, 10K, or half marathon, with routes showcasing Boise's scenic beauty, including the Greenbelt and the Botanical Gardens. Notably, children aged 12 and under can participate for free with a paid adult, emphasizing the event's family-friendly nature.
The registration kickoff saw a record-breaking turnout, with over 10,375 participants signing up in just one day. Currently, registrations stand at 11,604, with a notable 39% of participants being first-time entrants. The event will also feature a finish festival at Anne Morrison Park, complete with food, live music, and activities for families.
This year, the half marathon route has been adjusted due to a bridge closure, but organizers have ensured that the new path maintains the correct distance for runners. The event relies heavily on volunteer support, with over 750 volunteers expected to assist.
With registrations from 36 states, the FitOne event not only promotes health and wellness but also fosters community spirit and engagement, making it a highly anticipated occasion in Boise's annual calendar.
