She referenced a failed ordinance in 2020 aimed at placing a ballot question to add council members to the board, as well as a controversial resolution passed in June 2022 that sought to ban mail-in ballots and ballot drop boxes, despite a significant portion of the electorate relying on these voting methods.

The discussion also touched on a recent proposal from August 2023, which aimed to vacate the current board of elections and reestablish it with council members included, along with the power to appoint the chair. Williams criticized this initiative, asserting that it undermines the independence of the board as outlined in the county charter.
