A significant focus was placed on the Safe Streets for All Butler Avenue Complete Street Conversion Project, which has received a $9.6 million grant covering 80% of its costs. The city is responsible for the remaining $2.4 million, for which they have also secured funding through the AZ Smart program. This project will introduce separated bike lanes, pedestrian pathways, and improved crossing facilities at critical intersections, including enhancements to the existing pedestrian crossing at Humphreys and Butler.

The project is currently at 15% design completion, with further planning required to address potential conflicts with existing utilities and right-of-way acquisitions. These concept plans are crucial for assessing feasibility and will serve as a foundation for future grant applications aimed at full construction.
