During a recent government meeting, Spokane Parks and Recreation officials highlighted a successful summer filled with community events and upcoming activities. The meeting began with a report on the summer pool parties, which featured a hot dog cart, Kona ice, and various snacks, along with free towels, sunscreen, and water bottles for attendees. Sponsored by Providence Molina and the Ennovia Foundation, these events were well-received, with the foundation contributing $5,000 as part of a naming rights agreement for Riverfront Park.
In addition to the pool parties, Providence also allocated funds for improvements, including $3,700 for lighting at Whitter Pool and $22,000 for landscaping at Stepwell. The meeting underscored the department's commitment to enhancing community spaces and ensuring safety, with $28,000 earmarked for fencing around the Stepwell.
Looking ahead, Parks and Recreation officials expressed excitement about upcoming events, including the expansion of the Corbin art program and the introduction of postseason swim lessons at Whitter Pool, a first in many years. The summer season will conclude with the popular \"doggie dips\" event on August 25-27 and the Spokane Golf Championship starting August 23, which has already sold out.
The meeting also announced the 43rd annual \"Pig Out in the Park,\" set to take place from August 28 through Labor Day weekend, featuring 65 food booths, 45 public market vendors, and 150 free concerts, promising to be a highlight of the community calendar. As summer winds down, Spokane Parks and Recreation is focused on finishing strong with a variety of engaging activities for residents.
