Todd, a key member of the development team, provided an update on the Crossing Southeast project, which is integral to the East Lamar redevelopment. He announced the recent sale of approximately 5 to 6 acres to facilitate the first phase of single-family and townhome construction by Saucy Burbank. Additionally, two mixed-use buildings are under construction, which will feature 280 multifamily rental units and 16,000 square feet of commercial space. The city has taken a master lease on the commercial area to promote inclusive prosperity, specifically targeting small, local, and minority-owned businesses from East Charlotte.

The meeting also addressed the establishment of a new 4.5-acre park, with land conveyance approved by both the city council and the county board. Construction on the park is expected to begin in late 2024 or early 2025. Furthermore, a senior affordable housing development comprising 70 units is nearing completion, with residents anticipated to move in by the end of this year.

Officials emphasized the visible progress on the site, attributing much of it to the infrastructure work being conducted by Carlson Southeast. This groundwork is crucial for the upcoming sports complex development, which is set to commence shortly after the infrastructure work concludes.
