Todd, a key member of the development team, provided an update on the Crossing Southeast project, which is integral to the East Lamar redevelopment. He announced the recent sale of approximately 5 to 6 acres to facilitate the first phase of single-family and townhome construction by Saucy Burbank. Additionally, two mixed-use buildings are under construction, which will feature 280 multifamily rental units and 16,000 square feet of commercial space. The city has taken a master lease on the commercial area to promote inclusive prosperity, specifically targeting small, local, and minority-owned businesses from East Charlotte.
The meeting also addressed the establishment of a new 4.5-acre park, with land conveyance approved by both the city council and the county board. Construction on the park is expected to begin in late 2024 or early 2025. Furthermore, a senior affordable housing development comprising 70 units is nearing completion, with residents anticipated to move in by the end of this year.
