In a recent Torrington Police Department meeting, commendations were given to officers for their exemplary service in two significant cases.
Detective Fador, Sergeant Johnson, and Lieutenant Bruyard were recognized for their diligent investigation into a violent robbery that occurred on August 11, 2020. The incident involved a male victim who was lured to a parking lot under the pretense of meeting a female friend to provide marijuana. Upon arrival, he was attacked by an unknown male armed with a knife, sustaining multiple stab wounds. The victim managed to escape and sought medical attention at Charlene River Hospital.
The investigation led to the identification of the main suspect, Bradley Stedman, through extensive efforts including surveillance footage and social media records. An arrest warrant was issued for Stedman, charging him with first-degree assault and robbery, alongside warrants for additional suspects involved in the incident. The officers' thoroughness and dedication were praised as a credit to the Torrington Police Department and the community.
Officer Cyr also received an award for his exceptional duty in a case involving an elderly victim suffering from dementia. After responding to a report of a missing vehicle, Officer Cyr discovered that the victim required medical attention and placed her in protective custody. His investigation revealed that a caretaker had been misusing the victim's bank account and vehicle. Officer Cyr took proactive measures to freeze the victim's accounts and worked closely with elderly services to ensure the victim received proper care. His actions were highlighted as exemplary of the high standards of law enforcement.
Both cases underscore the commitment of the Torrington Police Department to community safety and the protection of vulnerable individuals.
