Residents of a Blaine neighborhood voiced their concerns during a recent government meeting regarding the increasing noise and disturbances from a local trucking company, Old Dominion. The complaints centered around the operational changes and expansions that have led to heightened noise levels, particularly during late-night hours.
One resident, who purchased their property in 1983, highlighted the significant changes in the area since the trucking company began operations in 2004. They noted that when they moved in, there were few homes nearby, and the noise was manageable. However, with the growth of the neighborhood, now home to approximately 75 additional residences, the noise from truck operations has become a major issue.
The resident described the incessant beeping from backup alarms, vibrations from truck movements, and the overall disturbance caused by the company's activities, especially at night. They expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of a proposed 16-foot noise wall intended to mitigate the sound, suggesting that alternative solutions, such as the use of electric trucks, should be considered.
The resident's comments reflect a broader concern among community members about the impact of industrial operations on residential quality of life. As the council deliberates on the trucking company's variance request, the feedback from residents underscores the need for a balance between business operations and community well-being.
