In a recent government meeting, officials unveiled an ambitious plan to enhance recreational offerings at local parks, emphasizing community engagement and family-friendly activities. Central to the proposal is the introduction of a Himalayan putty green, designed as a unique putting experience featuring moguls and multiple holes. This free-to-the-public attraction aims to provide a fresh take on traditional golf, with the course layout changing regularly to keep visitors engaged.

The plan also includes a $6 million investment in a multi-sport simulator, which will cater to various sports beyond golf, such as soccer and hockey, as well as offering unique activities like zombie shooting. This facility is expected to attract a diverse range of users, promoting active lifestyles within the community.

Additionally, officials proposed the construction of a paved pickleball event court at the existing wedding venue site. This versatile space is intended for multiple uses, including weddings, small concerts, and fundraising events, while being aesthetically enhanced with landscaping to create an inviting atmosphere. Noise mitigation features will also be incorporated to ensure a pleasant experience for both pickleball players and golfers.

To further promote year-round activity, a fat tire bike course is planned, offering a 5-mile or 3.2-mile trail through the expansive 220-plus acres of golf course property. This initiative aims to draw visitors to River Oaks during the winter months and enhance the overall recreational appeal of the area.

For the projects to move forward, each must secure individual approval from the respective governing bodies overseeing Hamlet Park, River Oaks Golf, and Mississippi Dunes. The proposed enhancements reflect a commitment to fostering community engagement and providing diverse recreational opportunities for residents.
