During a recent city council meeting, discussions centered on the development of a new subdivision and its associated infrastructure, particularly focusing on the improvements to Hillview Way and the provision of parkland.
City Engineer Troy Monroe provided an update on Special Improvement District (SID) 549, which pertains to existing enhancements on Hillview Way. Monroe confirmed that the portion of the subdivision already within city limits would contribute to the improvements, while homes being annexed from the county would also be required to pay the same fees as those in the district. This arrangement was coordinated with the city attorney's office.
Monroe also addressed the design of Bridal Road within the subdivision, noting that it would function as a collector road equipped with streetlights, with installation managed by the developer. Maintenance and electricity costs for the road would be covered by the road district.
Councilor Anderson raised concerns regarding the parkland associated with the subdivision, highlighting that much of it appears to be wild land with trails. Anderson questioned whether there are plans for a more developed park featuring play structures and maintained grassy areas, given the subdivision's size and family-oriented location.
Nathan McLeod from Missoula Parks and Recreation responded, indicating that the parkland would include a mix of conservation areas and developed spaces. He acknowledged the challenges of creating usable park space on the hillside but assured that plans include terraces and future amenities such as picnic shelters and playgrounds. The specifics of these developments are still under discussion, and the developer may contribute to these enhancements.
