In a recent government meeting, Wayne County officials announced the successful application for a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation aimed at enhancing road safety across the county. The grant, which is expected to be awarded in early 2024, will fund a planning phase that involves hiring a qualified consultant to assess and identify critical safety improvements needed for various roadways and intersections.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to utilize federal funds allocated post-COVID to address infrastructure challenges. Wayne County is required to contribute a $250,000 match to the grant, underscoring the county's commitment to improving transportation safety.
Additionally, the meeting addressed two other significant items. The first was an amendment to a three-year contract with Toby Construction LLC for the replacement of the Warren Avenue bridge over the Middle Rouge River in Dearborn Heights. The second item involved a modification to a five-year contract with HNTB Michigan, which will continue to provide comprehensive asset management analysis for the county's road infrastructure. This contract aims to develop a cost-effective ten-year strategic plan to ensure the maintenance and improvement of road conditions throughout the county.
The discussions highlighted the county's proactive approach to addressing infrastructure needs and enhancing public safety through strategic planning and collaboration with experienced contractors.
