The first petition involved a request for a three-car garage at 1111 Catharine Street. The proposed garage, featuring a gable roof and brick and vinyl siding, was deemed consistent with the neighborhood's character, which includes several properties with similar detached garages. The board unanimously approved the petition after confirming the garage's specifications and addressing a question regarding its size.
The second petition, presented by Michael Savarese of Full Steam Staffing, sought a special use permit to establish a staffing agency at 1504 Essington Road. The proposed agency would occupy a 1,500 square foot space within an existing commercial building, which currently houses various tenants. Despite the Economic Development staff's preference for retail use at the location, they did not oppose the staffing agency due to existing vacancies in the building.
During the discussion, Savarese clarified that the agency specializes in light industrial staffing, primarily for warehousing and logistics positions. However, the board ultimately voted to recommend denial of the petition, citing concerns over the nature of the business and its potential impact on the area. The decision will be forwarded to the City Council for final consideration at their upcoming meeting.
