During a recent government meeting, officials highlighted the success of the recent back-to-school bash, which provided over a thousand students with essential supplies, including backpacks and hygiene kits valued at approximately $300 each. The event, praised for its community impact, showcased the enthusiasm of students, with one first grader humorously declaring his readiness to shave after receiving a plastic razor from his hygiene bag. Another middle school student expressed newfound excitement for the school year, reflecting the positive influence of the initiative.
The project, which cost around $80,000, was made possible through community fundraising and donations, with significant contributions from local volunteers. Officials acknowledged the efforts of Amanda Boyd, who dedicated eleven months to organizing the event, as well as the support from the Mon County center and other community members.
While the event was celebrated, it also underscored the ongoing need within the community, as many families began lining up as early as 7:00 AM to receive assistance. The officials expressed gratitude for the community's involvement and look forward to continuing this initiative in the future.
