In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the financial implications of acquiring new ambulances, which are priced at approximately $350,000 each. The conversation highlighted the importance of a two-year agreement aimed at improving cash flow and minimizing interest costs, ultimately reducing the overall service expenses for the community.
The meeting also addressed the GeMT financing process, which is set to cover costs from January 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024. The submission for this financing is scheduled for November, with approval expected in spring 2025, allowing funds to be received by July 2025, effectively starting in fiscal year 2026. This timeline indicates a significant delay before the anticipated financial relief can be realized.
Officials noted that the focus on Bettendorf and Downport for ambulance placement is strategic, given the concentration of services in the metro area and the potential for growth in Bettendorf, particularly in the Forest Grove area. To further support this initiative, Bettendorf has proposed a mutual agreement that would allow for an additional $150,000 contribution if the need for an extra ambulance arises in the future.
This collaborative approach aims to enhance emergency services in the region while addressing the financial challenges associated with maintaining and expanding ambulance capabilities.
