In a recent government meeting, the Crest Hill zoning commission discussed a variance request from Scott McPhedries concerning his property at 194 Civil Drive. The meeting highlighted the importance of drainage management and compliance with city regulations regarding accessory structures.
The city engineer reported that there were no blockages to natural drainage in the area, which led to a consensus among the commission members that the proposed 58% coverage of the property was acceptable. However, they emphasized that if any structures, such as a shed, needed to be moved for city or utility work, McPhedries would be responsible for any restoration costs incurred.
Commission members expressed their appreciation for the aesthetic upkeep of the neighborhood, noting that McPhedries' property was well-maintained. They proposed several conditions for the variance approval, including the requirement for all necessary building permits for the structures on the property, which would incur fines due to the lack of permits for recent installations, including a pool and a paver patio.
The commission clarified that fines would be three times the original permit fee, amounting to $300 for each of the four items needing permits. Despite the penalties, the commission unanimously approved the motion to recommend the variance to the Crest Hill City Council, which will conduct the final vote on the matter.
