In a recent government meeting, the Boca Raton City Council discussed the Boca Paddle project, a proposed recreational facility set to be constructed within North Park at 5800 Northwest Second Avenue. The project encompasses a conditional use approval and site plan approval for a two-story, approximately 77,218 square foot paddle and pickleball facility, which will feature 14 indoor pickleball courts, two indoor paddle courts, and nine outdoor pickleball courts, along with locker rooms and food service.
The facility aims to exceed the standard height limit of 25 feet in the recreational zoning district, proposing a height of 46 feet. However, under specific conditions, buildings primarily used for sports or recreation can reach up to 85 feet. The proposed site is strategically located approximately 380 feet from the nearest residential building, a seven-story condominium, with screening measures planned to mitigate any potential impact on nearby residents.
During the meeting, Heather Hanson from the Development Services Department presented the project, highlighting its compliance with zoning regulations and the overall benefits to the community. The council members had no immediate questions regarding the proposal, indicating a smooth review process. David Millage, representing the petitioner, confirmed that the facility would have independent parking, alleviating concerns about congestion within North Park.
The council is expected to make a recommendation regarding the conditional use and site plan approval to the city council, which will ultimately decide the project's fate. The Boca Paddle project represents a significant investment in recreational infrastructure, aiming to enhance community engagement through sports and leisure activities.
