In a recent government meeting, Mayor Lu emphasized the critical importance of economic development in Taichung, highlighting ongoing efforts to establish various industrial zones tailored to meet the needs of diverse sectors. The mayor outlined six key industries driving growth in the region: precision machinery, machine tools, aerospace, wind power, optoelectronics, and bicycles.
A significant focus was placed on the potential of offshore wind power, with Taichung's 40-kilometer coastline along the Taiwan Strait being home to some of the world's most promising wind farms. This strategic location has attracted numerous major offshore wind power companies from Europe, the United States, and Japan, eager to set up operations in the area.
Additionally, the meeting spotlighted the thriving semiconductor and high-tech industries in Taichung. Notable companies such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC) and Micron are expanding their presence in the region's science park, with TSMC planning to increase its facilities from two to six plants, while Micron is also ramping up its operations.
The mayor also noted the region's robust agricultural sector, which produces high-quality fruits including pears, oranges, and tea, further contributing to Taichung's economic landscape. The discussions underscored a clear commitment to fostering industrial growth and enhancing the region's economic resilience.
