In a recent government meeting, the Saint Michael's Knights of Columbus Council, 2553, received approval for a special events permit to host \"Polka Fest\" at the Pathfinder Event Center in Florence on September 28th. The event, which will run from 4 PM to midnight, is expected to feature a polka band and will include security measures such as off-duty sheriff deputies to ensure safety and compliance with local regulations.
Kevin Vohrey, representing the council, explained that the event was initially planned as an Oktoberfest but was renamed to reflect its focus on polka music. Attendees will be able to purchase tickets at the door or online through Eventbrite. The event will serve local beer provided by the Florence Brewery, with trained bartenders overseeing the service.
The meeting also addressed a temporary use permit for a vintage flea market proposed by Daniel Vinton, set to take place over four consecutive weekends from September 14 to October 6 at his property on US Highway 50 in Canyon City. The market will feature up to 15 vendors and two food trucks, with an estimated maximum of 43 attendees at any given time. The event has received necessary approvals from local health and safety departments, and the commissioners expressed their support for the initiative.
Both events highlight community engagement and local culture, with the Polka Fest celebrating music and the flea market promoting local artisans and vendors. The approvals reflect a commitment to fostering local events that enhance community spirit and economic activity.
